Greta Gerwig is one of the main cast members of How I Met Your Dad, portraying the role of Sally. She also is one of the series' writers.



Gerwig was born in Sacramento, California, USA. Her parents are a nurse named Christine (née Sauer) and a financial consultant, Gordon Gerwig. Gerwig was raised as an Unitarian Universalist, but also attended an all-girls Catholic school. She described herself as "an intense child". She took an early interest in dance and intended to get a degree in musical theatre in New York. She graduated from Barnard College, where she studied English and philosophy instead.


Gerwig started appearing in films in 2006 where she got her first movie role in LOL. She later appear in the 2007 movie, Hannah Takes the Stairs. In 2008, Gerwig appeared in the films Baghead, Yeast, Nights and Weekends, and I Thought You Finally Completely Lost It. She also appeared in the short, Quick Feet, Soft Hands.

In 2009, Gerwig appeared in You Won't Miss Me, The House of the Devil, and A NY Thing. She also appeared in the short, Family Tree. In 2010, Gerwig appeared in Greenberg, Art House, and Northern Comfort. In 2011, Gerwig appeared in the films, No Strings Attached, The Dish & the Spoon, Arthur, and Damsels in Distress.

In 2012, Gerwig appeared in To Rome with Love, Lola Versus, Frances Ha, and The Corrections. From 2011 to 2013, Gerwig made numerous appearances on China, IL.

In 2014, it was announced Gerwig was cast as the lead character and writer on the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Dad.
